Hi There,
I'm Iain Roderick Tay

Thanks for clicking onto my page! My name is Iain and I am currently a final year student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), majoring in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Currently, I am awaiting my placement at ION Group as a Rotational Analyst under their Leadership Development Program.

I am deeply passionate about the intersection of fintech, AI, and automation. I love working on personal projects that make life run more efficiently, whether that means writing Python scripts to automate daily tasks like hotdesk bookings or training machine learning models to predict sports match outcomes for my academic research.

Beyond technology, I am an avid lover of strategy games. I thrive on the challenge of analyzing complex situations and finding the best possible move within a strict time limit, a strategic mindset that I bring into all of my technical problem solving and engineering work.

Work Experience

Aumovio, AI Engineer Intern

As an AI Engineer Intern at Aumovio, I contributed to an R&D team focused on advancing autonomous vehicle safety by developing real-time situational awareness systems. My primary focus was engineering a scalable data ingestion pipeline and a custom gaze-tracking solution to automate the validation of driver attention. Utilizing MediaPipe and Paddle, I implemented complex linear algebra transformations to map 3D gaze vectors into 2D screen coordinates within a robust object detection stack. Additionally, I optimized internal data labeling workflows in a Linux environment by creating a ground-truth generation tool that significantly improved the efficiency of deep neural network training. These efforts directly supported our mission to build purpose-driven AI products that monitor driver safety and meet exact client needs.

Trustplus AI, AI Engineer Intern

As an AI Engineer Intern at TrustPlus AI, I drove the development of AI-powered software for a fast-growing fintech startup specializing in credit risk management. I collected and curated extensive multi-language financial datasets to train our models. A key achievement was building a high-performance table detection system for complex financial documents using YOLOv8, which reached 99.3% accuracy—approaching research-grade benchmarks. Additionally, I fine-tuned and deployed ensemble BERT models for automated financial statement categorization, achieving 98.83% accuracy. I was responsible for deploying these models on AWS as scalable endpoints, enabling real-time predictions and seamless integration for our clients.

Seagate Technology, Data Science Intern

Assigned to the Multi-Disc Writer (MDW) Product & Process team, my internship focused on enhancing media manufacturing operations through data-driven solutions. I developed and deployed a comprehensive system health dashboard that monitored the status of critical manufacturing equipment by analyzing complex machine log files. This initiative significantly improved operational visibility and helped reduce downtime. I also implemented data analysis workflows to identify performance patterns and optimization opportunities, and deployed Grafana and Prometheus monitoring solutions to track real-time system metrics, enabling proactive maintenance and supporting continuous process improvement.

During my internship with the Command, Control, and Communication (C3) Development team, I worked on the critical 'Drone Vs Drone' project. My primary role was to engineer a real-time drone mosaic map generation system using LuciadLightspeed technology, which significantly enhanced battlefield visualization capabilities. To support this system, I developed and optimized algorithms for the extraction and processing of telemetry data from drone missions using the Java Spring framework. My contributions led to improved situational awareness for operators through the implementation of robust, real-time data processing solutions and seamless system integration.

My Passions and Play

When I step away from my professional work, I'm passionate about activities that challenge my mind in different ways. I'm an avid player of strategy games like Teamfight Tactics and chess, which constantly sharpen my critical thinking and decision-making under pressure. On the creative side, playing the bass nurtures my discipline and allows for artistic expression. Out on the football pitch, I learn the value of teamwork, communication, and resilience. These hobbies are more than just pastimes; they keep me balanced, creative, and focused. The skills I develop—from strategic foresight to collaborative problem-solving—are integral to how I approach challenges in both my personal and professional life.
